What is Fit to Lead?

Fit to Lead is a free, hands-on coaching and leadership program for women in Adelaide, South Australia, who want to become soccer coaches or strengthen their coaching confidence. The program combines practical training, mentoring, and cross-cultural collaboration with women coaches in Colombia and Brazil.

Who is the program for?

Women based in Adelaide who are aspiring or early-career soccer coaches, or who are interested in stepping into leadership roles within football. Prior coaching experience is helpful but not essential.

Is the program really free?

Yes. Fit to Lead is fully funded by a COALAR grant, meaning there is no cost to participants.

What do you require from me?

We ask for a commitment of around 2 hours per week from March to November. This includes completing class content, attending coaching sessions, and taking part in mentoring and program events. You’ll also need a valid Working with Children Check (the volunteer check is free). Sport experience is helpful, but not required.

Can I complete Fit to Lead remotely?

Fit to Lead is delivered as a hybrid program. The theoretical content and mentoring sessions are delivered online, allowing flexibility for participants. However, some modules and all practical coaching activities must be completed in person, as participants will be co-coaching a real Adelaide-based team. In-person sessions will take place in the evenings to support participants who work or study during the day.

What does the training involve?

Participants complete 30 hours of blended learning between March and June 2026, including online modules on physical preparation, nutrition and wellbeing, tactics, and leadership, alongside practical coaching with a real Adelaide-based team.

Will I be coaching on my own?

No. Participants are paired with another Fit to Lead participant to co-coach a team, encouraging peer learning and shared leadership.

What support will I receive?

You’ll receive ongoing mentoring from experienced coaches and female experts, plus peer support from your cohort.

How many places are available?

There are 16 places, with participants selected based on merit and motivation.

Do I receive a qualification?

Participants who complete the program receive a certificate of completion.

How do I apply?
